Amelia went to her cousin Jack's birthday party last weekend at the Young Chef's Academy. Jack is in the center back row of the picture above. She had a great time making a mess and also pizza.
We had been trying for months to get her to wear her hair in pig tails. Once the neighbor girl did it that was all it took. Admiring her new look in the mirror.
We have been watching a very large spider outside of our study this summer. She is a harmless garden spider. Last night a large locust got caught in the web. the locust was just a big as the spider By the next morning the locust was gone and the spider was much much bigger.
The posts may have been a little slow this month. I have been directing and teaching in a summer program for Chinese students at the law school. Emma has been teaching in the program also. Some of our students came over for dinner last night. Amelia had a ball. They were all very interested in her ... and Rufus.
Amelia and I were playing with these plastic wine glasses the other day. In the end the joke was on me because she finally succeeded in breaking the "unbreakable" base off the stem of one glass.
She was very brave and wanted to go out in the surf. You can't hear it in this video but she would watch the ocean and say "here comes, here comes, here comes the big wave." Then she would scream in my ear, which you can hear.
Amelia has latched on to a new line of dolls that we really like. They are called the Groovy Girls. They are not over-marketed like most everything else she is into. Actually, it is hard to find them in local stores but they are easy to find online and on eBay. We like them because they are the anti-Bratz. Bratz, for those of you who don't know are little skank dolls who have short skirts and freakishly large eyes and lips. We have not outright forbade them for fear of her wanting them even more but we certainly don't want any around. Although she just had her birthday and needs absolutely nothing, if you have an urge to get her something Groovy Girls are a good choice.
Amelia took her first ballet class today. Here she is at home getting ready to go.
She had a really great time but didn't always follow the teachers commands. She took her class at the same school where her Aunt Alee had lessons many years ago. Suprisingly, Amelia's Dad once took ballet in a feeble attempt to imprvove his coordination. It didn't help.
Amelia and I have been using binoculars (she calls them telescopes) to look at the moon for about a year. She still has trouble figuring out the right end to look in.

Amelia went to a great birthday party for Penny Love at the Zoo this weekend. She got to pet a ferret. Amelia was excited to see Baby Daniel at the party. She got a kiss from Daniel but was tired of me trying to pose her as usual.
Amelia went to her neighbor Gabby's birthday this weekend and had a great time on the zip line, rings, foam pit and other attractions. She kept running around telling everyone, "this is great exercise."
